This is Isis. Now, the issue is this: The past is causing problems in the present — the past in cultures and the past in individuals. People are getting too caught up in what happened in the past. Sometimes the past was something good, and so they keep hoping and trying to re-create the past in their present. Sometimes the past is something bad, and they keep blaming “this,” “that,” or the other person or group for that past even though the people they are blaming may not have had anything to do with it.

An example of that (it’s a delicate situation): The European war going on right now is entirely about the past. The motivation that started it is about the past.
