The Year That Breaks the Spell
The Year That Breaks the Spell Mary Ann Altamarino Antenucci
p>Every year brings a new opportunity to start fresh. Many people have the best of intentions when making resolutions, swearing that it will be the greatest fresh start ever. However, the work of implementing the change and being consistent can cause us to quickly run out of steam, and we often default to what has been sort of working all along. It may not be the latest and greatest, but it has gotten us to the point where we are right now.
Sometimes that is good, and sometimes it is not so good. However, we have a familiarity with what we are dealing with. This year, I felt that call to make peace with the past to create a new foundation for the future. If we can make the necessary corrections to habit and consequence, we can create more of what we want rather than what we don't. This doesn't have to require grand gestures of wiping all of our slates clear and resolving that "this time will be different." This time of change can be a matter of making a series of simple and elegant choices. We just choose differently and more positively in each moment. Those moments add up to our personal tipping point.
January: Engage
January provides us with the catalyst for change. When creating new foundations, we use the past as building blocks. The key phrase for January is "breaking the spell."
